People have been protected from their bibles for far too long! By this, I mean that the bible translators have gone out of their way for one reason or another to hide the reality of supernatural beings, how they affect our physical world and how all of this relates to The Great Commission.
Before I go into depth in this new series I want to make it clear that I believe that Yahweh is the one true and Most High God. He is unique, all powerful and the only spiritual being worthy of worship, there is none like Him. All the other elohim are spiritual beings that Yahweh created for His purposes and are in no way comparable to Him.
In the Old Testament elohim is a generic word most often translated as the word god, while in the New Testament the same generic word for god is theos. Both words can be used for a class of spiritual beings that sometimes demand worship from the people/nations that they rule over.
All of the biblical authors, including the Apostle Paul and the 1st century church believed in a world that was governed by these multiple divine beings.
Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords, yet for us there is [but] one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we [exist] for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we [exist] through Him. ~ 1 Cor 8: 4-6
You’ve probably always been taught that there are no such things as other gods, but in this video you’ll see that other gods were real, but that they were incomparable to Yahweh.
For example God said that He would destroy the gods of Egypt.
- Surely God would never declare judgement on imaginary beings?
If these gods were not real then it would totally dishonour God. His superiority over these gods is illustrated so well in Exodus 12:12
For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgements—I am the Lord. ~ Exodus 12:12
What is God’s Government?
Few people know that God has a heavenly family who participate with Him in ruling over the creation. Psalm 89 gives us a glimpse into this reality.
Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? ~ Psalm 89:5-7
- What is this assembly the Psalmist is writing about?
- What role did these ‘holy ones’ have in Psalm 89’s assembly?
These are some of the questions that will be answered in depth on my next blog post.
